A common saying is that one must first love themselves, before they can love someone else. That is wrong… Before someone can love themselves, they must first love God.
Many people would ask how I could say such a thing, and the answer is simple: I did not, Jesus did. (Mark 12:30: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. KJV)… If you think deeper about what Jesus said, it makes sense (especially after you have accepted Christ as your Savior, and felt the touch of His Spirit), and here is why: To love yourself first is self-centered, but most importantly contrary to the Word of God. Since self-love is self-centered, it is not an attribute of love, thus a person can not love themselves in such a manner, for they must love God first. (1 Corinthians 13:5 – It [love] is not rude, it is not self-serving, it is not easily angered or resentful.).
True Love is something everyone searches for at some point in his or her life. Know that true love is not what we have for our husbands, wives, children, friends, or family; True love is what our Lord has for us, his creations. ✞
